What to Expect
Also called collagen induction therapy, Microneedling revitalizes the skin by harnessing the body’s natural rejuvenation abilities in a process known as controlled wound healing. During a microneedling procedure, a SkinPen® device with small needles is gently rolled over the treatment area, creating small punctures in the skin. Known as micro-wounds, these punctures are microscopic and don’t damage the skin. Though superficial, the micro-wounds stimulate what’s called a “wound healing cascade.” The body increases circulation, releases growth factors, creates more cells, and produces more collagen. The result is beautifully restored, naturally rejuvenated skin.
PRF is obtained from your blood plasma. It is used to induce collagen and elastin production, which dramatically magnifies the rejuvenation effects of microneedling. Before your microneedling treatment, a clinician collects a small sample of blood to prepare your PRF serum. The sample will slowly spin in a centrifuge, isolating the white blood cells and platelets to create a nutrient-rich concentrate. Then, during Microneedling, we topically apply the PRF concentrate to the treatment area, allowing the nutrient-rich serum to penetrate deep into the layers of your skin via the micro-channels created by the skin pen microneedles.
It’s fascinating what our bodies can do, isn’t it? Think of Microneedling with PRF as an alternative to filler for hard-to-treat areas, that uses your immune system to stimulate volume production. This technique does wonders for treating dark circles and hollowing under the eyes as well as improving overall texture, tone, and hyperpigmentation. Swelling and bruising are likely and last for a few days to weeks. The treatment takes about an hour.
How Long Do Results Last?
Results are generally achieved within 2–6 weeks. We recommend microneedling every 4–6 weeks, depending on your goals.
