Before Your Filler Appointment
For 7-10 days before your filler appointment, discontinue the use of Aspirin, Motrin, Ibuprofen, Vitamin E, Fish oil, Garlic, Ginkgo Biloba, Niacin, Flax seed oil, and Omega 3. These products can cause bruising.
Starting 3 days before injections, taking oral, over-the-counter Arnica pills and applying Arnica gel or cream to the treatment area can decrease bruising and swelling. We recommend taking Tylenol before (and after) your procedure for discomfort.
After Your Appointment
- For the first day after your appointment, apply an ice pack for 5–10 minutes every 2 hours to the treatment area. For the following 2 days apply the ice 1–2 times daily. Do not apply pressure unless instructed by your clinician.
- For 24-48 hours after treatment avoid hot tubs, saunas, hot yoga, or heavy exercising.
- We recommend taking Tylenol for discomfort after the procedure (and before).
- Applying over-the-counter Arnica gel or cream to the treatment area and taking oral Arnica and Bromelain helps to reduce the length of bruising, swelling, and discomfort.
- Bruising in the injection area is normal and may take 7–14 days to fade.
- Redness and swelling in the injection area are normal for the first 3–7 days after treatment.
- It is normal for one side to be slightly fuller than the other. Asymmetry is part of the human anatomy, but we are happy to see you in 2–4 weeks for a touch-up if asymmetry is bothersome after injections.
- For the first 3 nights after treatment, we recommend sleeping on your back and using 2 pillows or a wraparound neck pillow to elevate and stabilize your head. This helps ensure that the newly injected filler stays in place.
- Contact Bellora Medical Aesthetics if you experience numbness, tingling, discomfort, or discoloration of the skin on or around the injection site. Call 911 immediately if you are unable to reach us or if you experience vision or neurological changes.
